The Smart Alecks is a full length cartoon which was developed by Tom Alexander.
Tom had an idea about a jazz musician and his strange friends from the neighborhood. He wrote, directed, scored, and voiced some of the characters as well, with a little help from some of his friends from the neighborhood.
The characters were designed by my ZADV co-workers David Hoffer and the backgrounds by Joe Sutphin. I took these, broke them down in flash and proceeded to animate the entire 22 minutes in Flash. All in all the project took almost 9 months, but in the end we had a real cartoon which Tom took to New York and California to try to sell. We even had people looking at it from Australia and South America. At one point, Philip Michael Thomas of Miami Vice was interested in the project. While the show did run on some college campus stations, it was never picked up by a major studio and is still available today.
